Science
Students will brainstorm how a sail might affect the motion of their axle-driven vehicles and then adapt their vehicles to hold a cardboard sail. Next, students will discuss design features they think are needed for propeller-driven vehicles. Students will then build a propeller-driven vehicle from a technical drawing.

Reading
Beginning today, the 5th graders will read The Memory Box, by Mary Bahr. Our Target Skill this week is Author’s Purpose. We will follow up the story with an activity which will give students the opportunity to explore some of their own important memories. The students will be making their own Memory Box, which is explained on the rubric handed out in class today, and due next Tues. May 11th. We look forward to hearing a little bit about every student’s Memory Box next week.

The fifth graders have begun Lesson 13, The Revolutionary War. They participated in a tug of war simulation the British Army, Continental Army, and the Colonial Allies. Next week we will complete the interactive notebook in class on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday we will have our review for this lesson. The test for this lesson will be 5/14.
