Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

Today marks the Mid-Trimester for 3rd Trimester. The 5th and 6th Grade teachers sent home letters in the Boomerang to any students receiving a C- or below in any class. Please read the letter and follow the directions written on it. This would be a great time for all parents to get on Powerschool and look at your child’s progress.

Math
Friday: Lesson 85 Converting Units of Capacity
Monday: Test # 16
Tuesday: Lesson 86, Multiplying Fractions and Whole Numbers
Wednesday: Lesson 87, Using Manipulatives to Divide Fractions

Religion
The students took the Chapter 19 test today. Next week we will begin Chapter 9, New Life. In this chapter we will learn that through the sacraments, Christ unites his followers to his Passion, Death, and Resurrection.

Social Studies
The fifth graders are working on Chapter 13 the Revolutionary War. We will have the test on this Chapter 5/14. Next week we will moving on to Chapter 14, The Constitution.

Reading
It was such a delight to hear the memories shared by the 5th graders this week! They seemed to really enjoy recalling and sharing some of the important events in their lives. Next we will be reading a story about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad, while working on the Target Skill of paraphrasing. As a follow-up, the students will be working in the lab on an interactive website about the Underground Railroad. Remember, good reading takes practice! Please continue to encourage your child to read every day.

Science
Students are beginning a new unit on the human body. In Chapter 3 of the Family Life text, students will look at messages they receive from communication media. They will learn the importance of honesty and respect in good communication and prayer as a communication with God.

Language Arts: Students should prepare for their pronoun quiz this Tuesday by using the study guide and practice sheets found on my webpage. In class, we continue to practice writing with “voice” as they represent various points of view from the picture book, Dear Mrs. LaRue.
