We had a wonderful week here in 5A! Students have been enjoying the sun and are excited about the coming of summer vacation. We still have two weeks left and we plan to keep learning! Ms. Semandiris

This is our little EOY party here at school led by the teachers. We will have some ice cream sandwiches and some popsicles as treats. We will be celebrating the summer birthdays on this day so if your child has a summer birthday, then they get a free dress on this day!!

Religion
We will be having the Chapter 18 Test on Monday (6/1) Students have reviewed the answers to the study guide in class. I have also attached the answers to Google Classroom for everyone. They should reread the Chapter several times and study the study guide. After Monday we will be learning about Chapter 19 Sacraments of Commitment. In this chapter we will learn about the Sacraments of Holy Orders and Matrimony.

Students will be finishing their last unit on Rock Cycle and Water Cycle. We will be talking about the importance of water conservation. 5B will have a short quiz on 6/2 and 5A will have their quiz on 6/1.
Social Studies
**The last day to turn in late/missing work is on Wednesday June 3rd for Social Studies class.
Next week we will begin Lesson 14 The Constitution. In this lesson we will learn about the key features of the U.S. Constitution. Objectives:
- Identify the weaknesses in the Articles of Confederation and the work of the delegates to the Constitutional Convention that led to the creation of the U.S. Constitution.
- Examine and list the key powers of the three branches of government created by the Constitution.
- Identify which branch(es) of the government can act in certain situations.
- Identify three issues that the delegates to the Constitutional Convention agreed on and three that they debated.
ELA
Hello HRS families! I love Genius Hour; It’s so exciting to witness students educating themselves about a chosen topic of interest, using effective research skills to do so. Your kids have been glowing with facts and information that they’ve been learning, and it’s so great to see them empowered with knowledge. Next week, we will dive right into creating a presentation for Genius Hour. I have example presentations on Google Classroom, as well as a template that will help students meet the criteria for this project. They just need to make a copy of the template. I will also send home a checklist and an outline for the final project. Our goal for this week was to have found and analyzed three sources, making a total of four with the inclusion of the previous week’s research. They may have one source without an author, as long as it is from a credible source (Britannica, for example, has some useful articles without authors). The note page is critical for me to assess their ability to find and analyze non-fiction sources, so please make sure students have completed note pages for each source. Thank you!
Theme Essays: Theme essays have been graded and passed back to students. For writing projects like this, I encourage students to edit and revise for a grade boost. It’s normal for students to not quite hit the mark on this draft, and by correcting it, they can review several skills taught in class. I also recommend revising because it is weighted much more than other projects in Alma. I appreciate the hard work and dedication from this year’s 5th grade class. It’s been an outstanding year and I am genuinely inspired by this group’s achievements.
