Boomerang Newsletter: May 8, 2026

Dear 5A Parents,

Firstly, I wanted to say Happy Mother’s Day to all of our 5A moms! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Today marks the Mid-Trimester of the 3rd Trimester! We encourage you to review your child’s grades in Alma at this time. We will be sending out an individual email to you if your child currently has a C- or below in at least one subject. We encourage you to review your child’s assignment grades on Alma to identify areas for improvement. If you have any questions about specific grades, please have your child speak directly with the teacher of the class in question. Open communication can be a great step toward understanding and addressing any challenges.

Thank you for your support,

Ms. Semandiris

ELA

Hello HRS families. Students have been doing a great job putting together theme essays this week. Their first draft was due at the end of class today. One key to success is in planning outside of class, which I had them do on the assignment “Your Essay Planner” for homework this week. Students who came to class yesterday with their planner complete (three examples of their chosen theme and one quote to support each) were able to get most of their essay done on Thursday. Great job, guys! Next week, students will begin Genius Hour. Students will learn a research strategy called the CARP test: credibility, authority, relevance, and point of view. During class they are researching for articles about their chosen topic. I recommend they also find a book related to the topic to dive deeper into the subject matter. Students know that their articles should have an author and be from a trustworthy source. After research, they will make a presentation and teach the class about their topic. I will put specifics about this project on the matrix. We have a lot of good learning to look forward to over the next month and a half. Have a great weekend!
