Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

 

Fifth Grade will be hosting coffee and donuts after the 8:30 and 10:30 Masses Sunday, May 21st. We welcome you and your fifth grader to help host after either of the Masses-Thank you!

 

Religion

Next week we continue to learn about the Catholic Social Teachings. Students will be learning about each of them and them in class.

 

Math

5/19 – Ch. 10 Lessons 1-4 Check My Progress

5/22 – Ch. 10 L. 6 Multiply Fractions

5/23 – Ch. 10 L. 7 Multiply Mixed Numbers

5/24 – CH. 10 L. 8 Hands On, Multiplication as Scaling

5/25 – No Math – Field Day

 

 

Social Studies

 

The fifth graders will begin Ch. 12 The Declaration of Independence. We will be taking a closer look at this historical document. Students will have a chance to “translate” the Declaration of Independence into modern English. The test for this Chapter is on May 25th. Study Guide was handed out on May 18th.

 

**The States and Capitals test is on June 2nd. It will be matching and there will be a word bank!

 

Science

Students will wrap up the Models and Design unit by designing and building a propeller driven vehicle with the purpose of reducing a hypothetical real-world production cost. They will then evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of their vehicle as well as discuss trade-offs and performance of their modified vehicle.

 

Family Life: In Lesson 2 of the Family Life text, students will explore how moods within the family affect each family member. Students will learn how to respect themselves and others whatever their moods.
