Dear Fifth Grade Parents,
This week has been a very busy week. We are full force ahead on the curriculum. Here is a brief update for next week.
Religion
We have begun to learn about Chapter 19, The Sacraments of Matrimony and Holy Orders. Please remind your child to study the Queen of Heaven Prayer for 5/14. This week we spent time reviewing the Rosary. Students must bring their Rosarys for the Living Rosary tomorrow.
Math
We will be working on Lessons 103 107 next week. My class has earned a Math party because everyone in the entire class turned in their homework for 20 days. I originally wanted 20 consecutive days but it did not work. They are becoming more responsible so that is the good thing!
Science
Students are beginning a new unit on the human body. In Chapter 3 and 4 of the Family Life text, students will look at messages they receive from communication media. They will learn the importance of honesty and respect in good communication and prayer as a communication with God. Students will also learn the changes that occur during puberty. They will discuss the importance of growing in a balanced way-physically, mentally, morally, and spiritually.
Social Studies
Next week the Fifth graders will be working on Chapter 13, The Revolutionary War. Tomorrow they will be taking the Chapter 12 test.
Reading
Monday of next week will be the last day students have in-class time to work on their author study project. If projects are not complete at the end of class, the remainder of work needs to be completed at home. Projects are due on Wednesday for 5A and Tuesday for 5B.
LA
Camp paragraphs or poems were handed in today. Next week, we begin the last major writing assignment, sci-fi / fantasy stories. In this major project, students will review many of the concepts theyve studied throughout the year, including plot, setting, character development, and the six traits of good writing.
