Students will receive the study guide for this chapter next week. This week we also did Lesson 4 in the Steps to Respect Curriculum entitled: Recognizing Conflict, Recognizing Bullying.

Reading

As we wind up this Book Club unit, I observed a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm about reading and discussing books together with classmates. We’ll be getting back into our Journeys books starting next Monday, but setting aside a few minutes of each class period to talk about our books and share our story elements posters with the whole class. I would greatly appreciate parents’  help in making sure that all of the books are returned.

Language Arts

In spelling this week students focused on syllable breaks in /gh/ and /ph/ spellings. Students identified and used regular and irregular verbs in grammar. In writing, students learned about the components of a persuasive letter and used a graphic organizer to draft their own persuasive letter about bringing a celebrity speaker to the school.

Social Studies

We have begun Chapter 9, Life in Williamsburg. Students will be visiting several different locations in Williamsburg to learn about the daily life of people in this city. Students will complete their interactive Notebooks in class as well as a “Hands On” activity. The test for this Chapter will be on 3/6.

Science

Students begin Chapter 4, Ecology. Students will explore the components of soil by classifying the parts into living, once-living and nonliving. Student will learn about the parts of an ecosystem. They will also discover how habitats and niches are related.

Have a great week!
