Dear Fifth Grade Parents,
The following is a curriculum update for the week of February 23 – 27, 2015.
Religion
The Chapter 16 test will be on Monday 1/23. Students have completed their study guide for this chapter and should prepare for the test by studying the study guide and rereading the chapter. We have also made our Lenten goals in the areas of “Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving.” Our 5th grade project for Lent will be collecting funds for our Uganda students that we have adopted. We will also be going to Mass on March 11th as a class at 7:45am. I hope everyone can make it that morning!!!
Math
1/20 Friday: Lesson 5, Multiply Decimals
1/23 Monday: Check Your Progress Lessons 1-5
1/24 Tuesday: Lesson 6, Multiply Decimals by Powers of 10
1/25 Wednesday: Lesson 7, Problem Solving – Look for a Problem
1/26 Thursday: Lesson 8, Multiplication Properties
1/27 Friday: Lesson 9, Estimate Quotients
Social Studies
We have begun Chapter 9, Life in Williamsburg. Students will be visiting several different locations in Williamsburg to learn about the daily life of people in this city. Students will complete their interactive Notebooks in class as well as a “Hands On” activity.
Science
Students will learn how scientists classify plants. They will be able to explain the differences between mosses, ferns, conifers and flowering plants. Students will take a quiz on Lessons 3 & 4 next Friday (2/27).
Language Arts
On Wednesday students finished last week’s spelling and grammar unit. Students worked on a rough draft of their problem-solution community issue essay. Thursday and Friday students will revise their rough drafts and they will finish their final draft for Monday.
Reading
We continue in our Book Clubs. Please help me emphasize the importance of your child staying up on the reading assignments and bringing books to class each day.
