Social Studies

Next week we will continue Lesson 4, Why Europeans Came to the New World? Students will examine objects/artifacts from an explorer’s ship. Then they will categorize artifacts as navigation tools, motives for exploration, or new products from the Americas. Students will work in pairs as research scientists and deep sea divers. They are encouraged to bring in swim goggles for class during this lesson. Looking ahead the test for Lesson 4 will be on (11/20) for 5B and (11/20) for 5A. The study  guide will be on Google Classroom on (11/13).

ELA

Hello HRS families. We are at the end of Number the Stars, our first class novel.  Students were given a variety of options for their final project, which will be due on Tuesday, November 19th. A description of each project choice can be found on Google Classroom. Let me know if you have any questions. Some projects, such as the board game, can be completed in groups of 2-3. Others, like the movie poster and “dear diary,” should be done individually. Next week, students will be creating a comic strip for the plot of Number the Stars and I will give them some time to work on final projects. If time allows, we will begin the short story project, which focuses on the narrative writing skills we’ve been learning. Students will get a new set of spelling/vocab words. Because Friday the 22nd is half-day, 5A will need to take the test on the 21st. Have a great weekend!
