Science
Students will begin a research-based science unit called Microworlds. In this unit, students will learn to use their powers of observation with the help of magnifying lenses and microscopes to see familiar things in a new way. They are also introduced to a fascinating new world-the cellular structure of living organisms.
Social Studies
This week the fifth graders have been learning how to make a Flipgrid Video. They have been presenting their Explorer Slideshows. Some students will be finishing this in class after Thanksgiving during class. After the Thanksgiving break, we will begin Chapter 6 Early English Settlements. Students will learn about Roanoke, Jamestown and Plymouth. Students will be divided into groups and prepare answers to a list of questions for an “Act-it-Out”. We will be having these presentations on (12/12). The test for this Chapter will be on (12/13). A study guide will be pushed out on Google Classroom one week before the test.
Religion
We will continue to work on Chapter 3, Signs of God’s Presence. Students have started their study guide for the chapter test. The test will be on 12/5.
ELA
Hello HRS families. I hope you have a wonderful thanksgiving break. This past week, students completed a two page short story in the genre of realistic fiction. I attached the rubric to Google Classroom (under “Short Story Planner”) so you can see how they will be graded. We are also finishing Number the Stars. If students are not done reading by the start of break, I encourage them to finish next week (there’s not much to go). They are also working on a final project, which they are able to choose from a selection of prompts. If students need poster paper, let me know. These are due Wednesday, November 29th. I will provide class time to work on these when we get back from break. Let me know if you have any questions. Take care!
