For our Lenten project, Fifth Grade will be collecting items for a program run by St. James and Catholic Community Services called the Solanus Casey Center. Students are encouraged to bring in items from this list:

Curriculum Update for April 8-12, 2019!
Religion
We are currently working on Chapter 18, Liturgy of the Eucharist. Students have been learning about the Eucharist, as it is the most important “Meal” we can receive. Students will be making a Dream Meal collage to relate how coming together for a meal is a wonderful occasion. Please see nightly homework regarding this assignment on the HW page.

We will finish our chapter on expressions with our chapter test on Monday after two days of review. Make sure that you look over the study guide and vocabulary carefully in preparation for the test! Our next chapter, we will be working with equations. This will extend our study of expressions with the addition of an equals sign and an answer. Students will solve equations by isolating the variable in one or two steps.
Social Studies
We have begun Chapter 10, Tensions Grow Between Great Britain and the Colonies.
In this Chapter, we will be using a Parent/Child Cartoon Metaphor to better understand the Proclamation of 1763, The Quartering Act, The Stamp Act, The Boston Massacre, The Boston Tea Party and the Intolerable Acts. Students will work with a partner to read about each event in history and then relate it to a cartoon metaphor. The test for this chapter will be on April 18th.
Science
Students will learn what makes up the solar system. They will discover how models of the solar system have changed. They will compare the planets and how objects in the solar system affect Earth.
LA
Lesson 15 quiz will be tomorrow, April 5th, so be sure to study tonight! We have spent more class time dedicated to reviewing the words in hopes of an improved test scores, but it will still require students to review on their own. Lesson 15 writing prompts were due today, April 4th. Next week we will not have a spelling quiz, but instead dedicate more time to revising writing pieces. Lesson 16 Spelling Quiz will be THURSDAY, April 18.
Reading
Students should be working on finishing their book club book and slide show presentation. Next week will be spent preparing for the oral presentation and end of book test which will be on Wed. Slide show presentations will begin as groups are ready to present.
