Dear Fifth Grade Parents,
Mid-Trimester Reports will be sent out on May 6th. These will be sent to students with a C- or below in any subject and/or for behavior. The 5/6 Department will be sending these out on May 6th because 6th grade is at camp the previous week when the rest of the school is sending out their Mid-Trimester Reports. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
Math
Monday: 4/29 Lesson 88, Transformations
Tuesday: 4/30 Lesson 89, Finding a Square Root
Wednesday: 5/1 Lesson 90, Reducing Fractions, Part 2
Religion
On Monday, students will take the Chapter 19, Test. We will be doing one lesson per week of the Steps to Respect Curriculum starting next week. The first lesson in on “Friendship”.
Science
Students continue to experiment with vehicles. They will predict and investigate how variations in rubber band energy affect the distance their vehicle travels. They will discuss the relationship between the number of turns of the rubber band around the axle and the distance their axel-driven vehicles travel.
Language Arts
This week students will continue to use the writing process and focus on Sentence Fluency and Organization to create a final draft of their paragraph in class. Students have been working on their descriptive character paragraph for a few weeks now and have completed their paragraph. They will revise their paragraph one more time before submission. The process for the paragraph was modeled in class. The students will also be working on an illustration to accompany their paragraph.
I will have a one-on-one conference with each student to help them build skills within their writing. As the year progresses Spelling Tests will continue to become harder. Students need to be studying for their spelling tests each week.
Social Studies
The fifth graders are taking the Lesson 11, To Declare Independence or not, test on Friday 4/26. Next week we will be moving on to Chapter 12, The Declaration of Independence. In this lesson we will be taking a closer look at 5 Excerpts from this famous document. The test for this lesson will be on May 7th.
