Boomerang Newsletter – December 9, 2022

Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

I hope you are doing well and enjoying the Advent season. We are now on the countdown to Christmas break and the kids are so excited!

                  Christmas Program

December 15th, Our Christmas Program begins with the Holy Rosary School band at 6:00 pm. All classes K-8 will have a chance to perform.  We’re excited to see this tradition return. Please have your child in their classroom between 5:30 pm and 5:45 pm. Students need to arrive in “Sunday Best” attire. 5A Parents will be required to pick up their child from the classroom after the program.

                           Schoolwide Advent Service Project

This year we have two schoolwide projects going on and families are encouraged to participate as you feel comfortable and are able.

For the preschool – grades 6, we will be collecting diapers, pullups, wipes, and new or gently used coats and kids clothing for Westside Baby and other local organizations that support families in our Seattle Community.

Items can be dropped at the school in the front hallway between November 28th and December 14th.  Items will be delivered on December 14th after they are blessed at our school Mass that day.

Religion

We have been reading about “The Birth of Christ” in the Bible during class. We have also been learning the 5 Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary. Each student received a hard copy listing the Glorious Mysteries. I  read them aloud in class from the Bible and then each table group reread them in class as well. Students have been practicing retelling these Bible stories in their own words in the order they occurred. Next week students will retell these stories to me in their table groups as a quiz. I will do this over a three day period during religion class. We will be starting our  Epiphany poems & Watercolor Drawings next week.

ELA

Hello HRS families. Next week, we are continuing our holiday reader’s theater: Who Stole Santa’s List. This mystery has students looking for evidence to try and accuse a character of stealing Santa’s list. It’s also an opportunity to practice speaking and listening skills. This should take the whole week. No spelling words next week. Have a wonderful break!
