Students will be participating in a special kind of science fair called the Invention Convention. The mission of the Invention Convention is to inspire curiosity, critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills in our students.
Students will invent a new product or develop a new method for doing something. Instructions and a grading rubric will be handed out in class. A copy is also available in the 5A Google Classroom. Inventions are due Friday, January 27th. They will be displayed in the hallway for Catholic Schools Week.
Social Studies
After the Christmas break we will begin Chapter 7, Comparing the Colonies. Students will learn about three Colonial Regions: New England Colonies, Middle Colonies and Southern Colonies. In groups, students will create a Billboard to advertise and motivate people to come to live in their colony from England. Then each group will present these Billboards to the class. We will be learning about the geography, economy, government and why each colony was founded.
ELA
I hope you all have a wonderful Winter break! When we return from break, we will begin unit two: exploring our differences with the novel Wonder. In this unit, students will engage in collaborative discussions and activities related to how we should treat others who are different. Students will receive their book, and we will complete an anticipation guide to introduce students to some of the motifs encountered in the novel. We will also continue daily grammar and conventions practice to improve students’ writing skills.
