Language Arts
Students begin writing news articles. We focus on writing good leads, including many of the 5 W’s. An assignment explanation and grading rubric are posted on my webpage. We review interrogative pronouns and pronoun contractions. Students will take a pronoun quiz next week. 5B’s quiz will be given on Wednesday 6/3 and 5A’s quiz will be given on Friday 6/5. A study guide will be posted on my webpage on Friday. ALL MISSING/LATE language arts assignments must be turned in by next Friday 6/5 in order to receive credit.

Reading
The 5th graders continue reading The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. We are incorporating many of the comprehension target skills that we have been working on throughout the year, as well as the use of complete responses, both verbal and written. Much of our reading is being done in class, both orally and silently. The students seem to be enjoying this story!

Social Studies
The 5th Graders will be moving on to Chapter 16, Manifest Destiny and Settling the West. They did a wonderful job learning about the Bill of Rights!

Science
Students will learn how oxygen gets to the body cells from your lungs. They will discover how cells use oxygen to release energy from food. Students will also study the excretory system to learn how your cells produce and get rid of wastes. In Family Life, students will learn take a quiz on Chapter 5 & 6 next Tues. (6/2).

Have a great week!
