Religion
We will be moving on to Chapter 9, New Life. Study Guide will be handed out next Tuesday in class.

Social Studies
The Fifth graders will begin chapter 15, The Bill of Rights next week. They have been doing very well in Social Studies and I know they will enjoy this next Lesson. They will have a test on this lesson on 5/27.

Science
Students begin Chapter 1 (Respiration and Excretion) on the Human Body unit. Students will learn how your body takes in oxygen.
Family Life: Students will take a quiz on Chapter 3 & 4 in the Family Life text next Tuesday. Students will begin Chapter 5. They will learn about the male reproductive system and its part in God’s plan for new life.

Language Arts Students review subject, object and possessive pronouns. We will learn about the 5 W’s used in writing newspaper articles and look for examples of different writing forms in the newspaper. Students can plan to bring in newspapers or sections of the paper each day next week—a few days old is fine!

Reading
5th graders read one of my favorite selections this week; The Memory Box. It is a very heartwarming story about a grandpa’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, and his idea to pass on some important memories to his grandson for safe keeping. While reading this story, we have been focusing on the target skill of Author’s Purpose: the reason or reasons an author has for writing. There will not be a Selections Test this week.

Remember to keep reading those books for your 3rd trimester Book Report which is due on May 21st.
