Next week we will have our Valentine’s Day Party on Thursday at 2:00pm-2:45pm. Your child is welcome to make Valentine’s but if they do please remember to make them for each student in 5A.
Math
2/11 Lesson 64 Using Monday to Model Decimal Numbers
2/12 Lesson 65 Decimal Parts of a Meter

Religion
Students will receive the Chapter 16 test tomorrow 2/8. We will work to complete this during class. The test for Chapter 16 will be on 2/14.
Social Studies
We have begun to study Lesson 8, Facing Slavery. We will be learning about slavery from the perspectives of West Africans facing difficult dilemmas as European slave traders take them farther and farther from their homeland. Students are working groups of three to solve three dilemmas that the West African people faced. The test for this lesson will be 2/13.
Reading
We have spent much of this week discussing ‘Theme’ and how to determine which themes are present in a story. The students identified three themes found in Number the Stars, then selected one to elaborate upon and to illustrate. These will be on display in the hallways. We will finish reading this story this week. Next week we will practice several study strategies to prepare for the end of the book test on Thurs. Feb. 14.
Science
Students will discover how adaptations help organisms survive in a water environment or on land. Students will take a quiz on lessons 1 & 2 next Tuesday (2/12).
Language Arts
This week students have been busy studying for their homonyms, antonyms, and homonyms quiz. This quiz and their recent projects are included in their mid-trimester grades. At the beginning of the week, students started studying Greek and Latin root words. We will continue our study with Greek and Latin roots by adding prefixes and suffixes. At the end of the unit, students will be able to use root words to decipher the meaning of new words.
Please continue to remind your son or daughter to study for upcoming spelling tests. The next spelling test will be February 12th.
