E.L.A.

It’s been great meeting your children this past week. We’ve spent time learning about each other, as well as learning about my classroom expectations. Next week, I will introduce our Wonder unit. Students will get a copy of the book, which they can bring home. We will be reading this as a class, and analyze it’s themes through a variety of writing activities and discussions. Our writing focus for the first trimester will be narrative. Students will begin to draft their own narratives, as I coach them through the writing process. Please expect students to have homework next week out of their readers notebook. Email me if you have any questions.

Social Studies

We will  begin Chapter 1, The Geography of the United States next week. In this lesson students learn the basic skills needed to understand the geography of the United States by creating a series of annotated maps. Students will learn several geography skills including determining location of lines of latitude and longitude and identifying physical features of the United States. Students will be having direct instruction as well as small group work to complete a set of map questions. The answers to these questions are located in their text.  Students will also be learning how to do a vocabulary assignment on a google doc.
