ELA
Hello HRS families! I’m very impressed by the classwork and projects your children have been turning in relating to the novel Number the Stars. Their work is vastly creative and it’s been exciting to see how each student interprets parts of the novel in their own, unique way. Students have also done a good job of keeping up with deadlines and due dates pertaining to their projects and assignments. In the past couple of weeks, students have had a lot of class time to work on these projects, and this is a good reminder that, when students use class time wisely, there’s much less work to do at home. I really enjoy these class periods in which students craft projects because it allows me to connect with kiddos individually. In regards to writing assessments like the theme statements and summaries, please know that I allow students to edit and revise to improve their grade (as long as this is done in a timely manner). I ask that they email me to arrange a time to meet before or after school to show me their revisions.
The final project for Number the Stars is due on Tuesday, November 18th. For all of the project options, students must find a way to demonstrate their understanding of the theme of this novel. Let me know if you have any questions about this aspect of the project. Students will present their projects to us before break, which will be super exciting. I’d also like to point out that we’ve taken a bit of a break from vocab and spelling to focus on the novel’s resolution. We will get back into the regular two week schedule for vocab and spelling after break. Have a great weekend, Mr. Williams
