Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

Camp Seymour Parent Informational Meeting: March 8th, 6pm in the HRS Library. (Parents Only Please!)

We are actively looking for Parent Chaperones to come to camp with us from May 3 – 5, 2023.

  • We need  more “Dad” Chaperones. Right now we only have two which is not enough!
  • We could also use one more “Mom” Chaperone.

Please email us if you are interested!!  *To be a Chaperone you need to be up to date on all your Safe Environment classes.

In the month of March we will be teaching our second Safe Environment, Touching Safety class. This lesson is called Lesson 6,  Boundaries: Feelings and Facts. Please contact us by Monday (3/6)  if you would like your child to “Opt Out” of this lesson.

Religion

We have been working on Chapter 16, Gathered as One. In this chapter students will learn that in the liturgy,

  • The Holy Spirit forms the community as an assembly to one another.
  • The Eucharist unites Christ’s followers to him and to one another.
  • In the Eucharist, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. He is really and truly present in the Eucharist – Body, Blood, soul, and divinity.
  • In worship and daily living, the community shows that through the Eucharist, Christ lives in us, and we live in Christ.

Students completed the study guide for this Chapter and the test will be on Thursday 3/9.

Social Studies

Next week we will have the Chapter 8 test on 3/10. Students have access to the study guide on Google Classroom. This week we will also be analyzing primary sources, images, and literature from different parts of the journey enslaved Africans experienced. Students are working in small groups to learn about three dilemmas the West African people faced. Students will be working on reading notes which are on Google Classroom. We will be taking a closer look at the triangular trade. The test for this Chapter will be on March 10th. A study guide will be posted to Google Classroom one week prior to the test.

ELA

Hello HRS families! Next week, we will begin the “Summer” section of Wonder. We will be reading in class, and I will assign reading at home as well. On Monday, there will be a new double-entry journal on Google Classroom. Students may do these on paper, whether it’s notebook, or by printing the double-entry. It’s important that students complete these as they’re reading, so that they don’t add up by the end of the section. I’ll give them time in class as well. There will also be new spelling words on Monday. Have a great weekend!
