Social Studies
This week the 5th graders have been working on Lesson 7 Comparing the Colonies. They completed a chart in the book to explain the Reason for Founding, Geography and Climate, Economy and Government of six of the 13 English colonies. I have attached the answers to this chart on Google Classroom so students can check their answers and study. I have also attached the study guide for the test so students can study for this test. The Lesson 7 test will be on February 11 for 5A and February 12 for 5B.
ELA
Hello HRS families. This week, we finished Part One: “August.” We are still working on some activities that were delayed with the snow, but we will proceed into Part Two next week. Students can expect some reading at home throughout the week, which will be noted on the matrix. The double entry journal for Part One was due on Wednesday (2/5), so please make sure your child completed this on time. There will be a new Double-Entry for Part Two on Google Classroom next week.
Also next week, we will finish the “character emotions chart” to analyze the ebbs and flows of August’s emotional journey starting at a new school. Students have picked out a couple theme options that speak to them, which will help when they search for quotes. At the end of the novel, they will write an essay for their chosen theme. As we progress, students can change themes if needed. Here’s a helpful tip for students: add a quote to your double-entry journal while you read so that it doesn’t pile up by the end of the section. We will have a spelling and vocab test at the end of the week. 5A will take their test on Thursday (6th period) because of the half-day on Friday. Have a great weekend!
