Boomerang Newsletter: December 12, 2025

Dear 5A Parents,

I hope you are having a wonderful Advent season. We only have one week left until Christmas break and the kids are so excited! Trimester 1 Report Cards will be emailed to you today via the HRS office staff.  I hope you have an amazing weekend! Ms. Semandiris

Lunch on Monday 12/15:

On Monday, we will be celebrating our 5B student Beckett as he will be moving to Montana during Christmas break. We will have a cheese pizza lunch as a farewell on Monday. If you would like to send a lunch with your student instead, that is okay!

Christmas Program

Students have been working hard to prepare for the whole school (K-8) Christmas Program the evening of December 18th. We ask all families to bring your children and stay the entire time. Families will drop off for the Christmas program between 5:30 and 5:45 on Thursday, December 18th in your child’s classroom. The program starts at 6pm. It’ll be livestreamed as well, if you want to send the link along to family and friends. Required: After the program please have one parent come to the 5A classroom to SIGN – OUT our child! Thank you!

Advent Service Project:

Advent diaper drive in partnership with Prepares, a ministry of our parish family. Prepares, a program of Catholic Community Services, walks closely with young families in our local community during the early years of their children’s lives. Diapers are among the most needed—and least available—items at food banks and community agencies. Prepares are especially in need of sizes 4, 5, and 6 diapers, as well as size 5 and 6 pull-ups, though diapers of all sizes and wipes are gratefully accepted. Donations may be brought to school and placed in the front hallway.

These will be displayed on the main hall bulletin board for the month of January. Students completed the Chapter 3 Study guide this week. We went over the answers in class and I attached the teacher’s answers to Google Classroom. We will be able to review it a few more times before the test on 1/12/25. Social Studies

This week we will be working on our “Act-it-Out’s for Roanoke, Jamestown and Plymouth. We will present these after Christmas break! Students should be planning ahead to study for the Lesson 6 test which is on January 9th by following the study guide on Google Classroom!

ELA

Hello HRS families, next week we will finish our study of the short story The Fun They Had by Isaac Asimov. We have used this story to practice citing and explaining textual evidence. I start with the R.A.C.E. strategy in response to questions, but then show students how they can use this formula to write solid opinion paragraphs, which they’ve been doing for the pros and cons of technology in their lives, and how technology use might affect people in the future. For the reading comprehension focus, they are creating book covers for the story to demonstrate understanding of the author’s use of imagery and vivid language in the descriptions. The images on students’ book covers should demonstrate key details, understanding of the story’s theme, and the mood.  We will end the week with an awesome readers theater called Who Stole Santa’s List; It’s a ton of fun! Have a great weekend! -Mr. Williams
