Next week we will have the Chapter 14 test on Tuesday 12/14. We will also be rereading the Nativity Gospel accounts in the Bible. Every year the 5th grade also learns about Epiphany which is celebrated on January 6th. Students will be making a watercolor of the Nativity scene as well as an emotion poem to express the joy that the birth of Christ brings us. These watercolor/poems will be displayed in the mail hallway of the school.

Social Studies
We have been working on Chapter 5, Routes of Exploration to the New World. Students have been assigned an explorer to research. They have been very busy creating a slideshow presentation by following the rubric posted in SS Google Classroom. I have also explained the assignment in class in depth. The assignment will be due on December 14th. Students will also make a Flipgrid video presentation next week. They will need to have their headphones for class.
***We will also be taking one day to practice writing the locations of the States on a map of the United States. Students will be also exploring the practice sites on Google Classroom as well as on their Chromebook. We will have a States and Capitals test in June.
Science
Students are practicing using microscopes. Students will learn how to prepare a wet-mount slide. They will also learn to focus up and down over the surface of an object that has depth. Students will then use their skills to identify unknown specimens using a microscope.

Happy weekend! As we get closer to the holidays, we will take a break from our Analysis of Wonder. Next week, there will be no spelling test. Students can expect to continue reading Monday and Tuesday, but then complete a character analysis chart: students will analyze the ebbs and flows of Auggie’s emotions as he navigates starting a new school (Wonder). We will also do a readers theater to practice public speaking. Homework will be to complete double-entries for any chapters read in class. Take care!
