Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

 

Next Wednesday (April 9th) the Fifth Grade will be attending morning Mass at 7:45am. I hope you all can make it. It is really special to be there altogether! On April 10th 5A will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation from 8:30am – 9:25am. Father John will be doing one on one confessions.

 

Reminders:

Bring in donations for Uganda! Fifth Grade is focusing on our adopted friends in Uganda as our Lenten outreach!

 

Looking Ahead

Religion

Next week we will begin Chapter 19, Answering God’ Call.Students will discuss vocations that serve God and others. They will read about the lives of Saints Isidore and Maria.  Students will learn how these saints offered their daily work to God. Students will brainstorm what daily activities they can offer to God.

 

Math

Monday: Lesson 7, Use Models to Write Fractions as Decimals

Tuesday: Lesson 8, Write Fractions as Decimals

Wednesday: Review Lessons 6-8

Thursday: Extra Review/Re-teaching for test!

Chapter 8 Test Friday 4/11

Social Studies

The fifth graders are continuing to learn about Chapter 9, Life in Williamsburg. We are currently visiting various locations in Williamsburg, learning about them and doing an activity. Students should be reviewing the online test at home, rereading the Chapter and reviewing notes in Interactive Notebook for the test on April 10th. (Yes, this is the real date this time!!) Students should be studying the Map of the 50 States at home. The test will be on May 2nd.

 

Reading

The students are busy preparing to perform in Reader’s Theater this week. This fun activity provides practice in oral reading fluency and performance skills, and the best thing is, they love doing it! It’s the perfect reading activity for ITBS week. 

 

 

 

Science

Students will learn wrap up Chapter 4, Ecology with a test next Friday (4/11).

 

Language Arts

Students have started a long unit on prefixes, suffixes, and root words. In this unit, students will identify what each prefix and suffix means, along with applying prefixes and suffixes to root words. This unit will continue up to the start of ITBS testing, March 31st. During ITBS testing students will have light homework in Language Arts.

 

Students will have a suffix quiz on March 27th. After ITBS testing concludes, students will have a unit test on prefixes, suffixes and root words.
