Social Studies
The fifth graders are currently working on Chapter 12, The Declaration of Independence. In this Chapter students will work in pairs to complete the Reading Notes in the Interactive notebook. Students will be using a word list to use to translate several words in the Declaration of Independence. We also learned about primary sources vs. secondary sources. The test for this chapter will be on 5/14.
Science
Students continue to experiment with vehicles. They will predict and investigate how variations in rubber band energy affect the distance their vehicle travels. They will discuss the relationship between the number of turns of the rubber band around the axle and the distance their axel-driven vehicles travel.
Reading
The 5th graders have spent this week reading an informational trade book. They’ve been meeting in Book Clubs to read and discuss About Time. This book was not online on ThinkCentral, so all of the reading and discussions have centered around the actual book. There were lots of opportunities to read and discuss diagrams and charts along with the historical, narrative parts of the text. The students enjoyed being back in their small groups reading together and breaking apart the information found inside.
