Social Studies
The fifth graders are busy learning about Chapter 9, Life in Colonial Williamsburg. We will be completing the interactive notebook in class. Please remind your child to practice the online test on my web page. The test for this Chapter will be 2/11.

Reading
We continue to read Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. The students are discussing the events of the story in small groups as well as responding to written questions in their 5-subs. There will be small quizzes every few chapters to assess comprehension as we move along in the story. Please encourage your child to discuss the story at home.

Language Arts
Parents, please make sure to ask your child about a special surprise they have created for you in class. We want all the parents to know how much we appreciate them!! Thank you for doing such a great job raising your children!!

Next week, we will be focusing on using strong verbs as we write paragraphs that describe different emotions. Due to our modified schedule during Catholic Schools Week, there is no spelling assignment or test this week.

Science
Students did a fantastic job on their inventions. I saw many creative ideas and products! This week students will learn how adaptations help organisms survive in a water environment. Students will also learn how land animals have special adaptations for survival. Students will investigate the strength of ordinary eggshells. They will also learn about the substances in an eggshell.

Have a great week!
Ms. Semandiris
