Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

I was thinking recently about how hard 5A students are working and trying new things in school. Whether it is presenting in front of the class, taking a test,  participating in a Spirit Assembly or Spelling Bee, the above quote by Theodore Roosevelt really speaks to me about the passion of trying and learning new things.  It also challenges us to never giving up!!!!

Please return the permission slip I handed out in the Boomerang for our Service Walk by Tuesday 1/28. Unfortunately, only students who have turned in the permission slip can go on the walk.

Next week, we will start the week with the first test from the sixth grade book: rates and ratios.  We will spend two days reviewing before the test.  We will then move right into our second chapter where we will work with fractions, decimals, and percents.  In this chapter, the kids will learn a lot of cool tricks for converting among F, D, and %.  They will also work with finding percents of numbers.

Students will present their billboard presentations tomorrow. The test for Chapter 7 is on 2/4. We will use the classes we have next week to review for this test.

Language Arts

Due to Catholic Schools Week events next week, Lesson 9 Spelling Quiz will be next Thursday, January 30th, on tricky compound words involving a variation of single word, hyphens, or separate words. Words can be found on my website: https://6b.holyrosaryws.org/5th-la/. We will be narrowing down our school-wide Spelling Bee representatives by this Friday! The students have been focused on being respectful and kind during this fierce competition.

Students will be able to describe the niche of several creatures that live in the rainforest including squirrel monkeys, kinkajous and ocelots.
