Social Studies

Students will take the Lesson 10 Tensions Grow Between Great Britain and the Colonists test on Monday, March 25th. The study guide is on Google Classroom. Students have been reviewing by creating skits for each of the 6 events we learned about in this lesson by using a cartoon metaphor. The remainder of the week we will begin Lesson 11 To Declare Independence or Not. Students will learn all about a Loyalist or a Patriot as they prepare for a panel debate. Then  join a group to get a presenter ready for the panel debate between Loyalists and Patriots. This is a really fun and exciting activity and the students will all play a part whether it be the Actor, Public Relations Agent, Journalist, or Costume Designer. They will all work together to prepare for this debate. The actual debate will not be until after Spring Break.

ELA

Hello HRS families. Next week, we will finish the novel Wonder. As we get towards the end of the book, students will continue to learn how to write a theme essay. I will provide student examples essays, and we will complete a graphic organizer together. The double-entries will come in handy, as their essay will require them to use at least three quotes to demonstrate why their theme choice is relevant. This will take most of the week, as students are writing the essay in class. Because we have Easter break following next week, we won’t have a set of spelling words. This will allow us to focus our time solely on writing the essay. I want to make sure students have enough time to write this, so if needed, we will finish after break. Have a great weekend!
