Dear Fifth Grade Parents!

Catholic Schools Week begins Sunday with Open House in the school and it begins after the 10:30 Mass. Open House ends at 1pm. Come see the new Chromebooks! All are welcome.

**Our class thank you auction will be next Thursday. This is the day that the students can use the “thank you cards” they have accumulated for good habits/behavior. Please donate one (or more) item under $3.00 to our big event. The dollar section at Target has many inexpensive gifts that kids love. Please donate your item by next Wednesday.

Religion

Students will continue to study Chapter 15, Forgiveness and Healing next week. We will have the test on 2/8. We have had so many little projects to do for Catholic Schools Week that it put us behind a bit! We will be delivering hand made student cards and primroses to our neighbors. Please sign and return the field trip permission slip that was handed out today.

Math

Chapter 6, Multiply and Divide Decimals

2/1 – Ch. 6 Lesson 4 Hands On: Use Models to Multiply Decimals

2/2 – Ch. 6 Lesson 5 Multiply Decimals

2/3 Quiz Lessons 1-5

Lego Education: Students will work in small groups to build a mechanical hammer. They will investigate mechanical control and timing of complex actions by cams and levers. Students also will be discussing the effects of inclined planes, friction, force and motion.

Science

Student’s inventions are due tomorrow.

Students will discover what makes producers important in an ecosystem. They will also learn how consumers get their energy.

 

Language Arts

This week in Language Arts the focus for spelling was vowel-vowel spelling patterns. Students learned about different uses for commas and semicolons in grammar. In writing students submitted their problem-solution short essays and began brainstorming for a persuasive opinion essay.

 

Social Studies

The Fifth Graders are working on Ch. 8 Facing Slavery. Students are working together in class to find solutions to the dilemmas the West Africans faced. The test for this chapter will be on 2/8 for 5A and 2/9 for 5B. Study guide will be handed out one week in advance.
