Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

This week we will be preparing for Catholic Schools Week. Please remember to read the on-line FCE to see the theme of each day. I hope you all have a wonderful 3-day weekend. Remember to make Monday a “Day-On”, in some way, to remember the life of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Camp Meeting: 2/5/08 6pm in the library! (Parents Only)

Math
Tuesday: Lesson 57, Simple Probability
Wednesday: Lesson 58, Writing Quotients as Mixed #
Thursday: Lesson 59,Fractions Equal to 1, Subtracting a Fraction from 1.

Religion
Monady (1/28) we will have a Religion test on Chapter 15. Students have completed the study guide for this lesson. I would like them to keep that study guide in their binder so we can use it during class. The following week is Catholic Schools week so we will be delivering primroses to our neighbors with handmade cards.

Social Studies
Friday we will finish preparing our Billboards and presentations for Chapter 7. Students will present these on 1/23. Our Chapter 7 test will be next Friday 1/25.

Science
Students will learn how scientists classify plants. They will learn the differences between mosses, ferns, conifers and flowering plants. Students will take a test a chapter 1 next Wednesday (1/23).

Reading
Fifth graders have begun choosing and reading a fiction book for their 2nd Trimester Book Report. Their book choice needs to be approved and signed off by a parent. They have each received instructions and the grading rubric for this project. The book report is due on Feb. 21st, which is also when the oral presentations will begin. Mini due-dates have been set along the way to assist students in planning their time. There are links on my website for these documents as well.

Have a great Week!
