We had a very productive week. The students enjoyed their pizza lunch celebration on Thursday for being the class with the most participants of the Reading and Math challenges last summer! Have a wonderful weekend! Ms. Semandiris
MAPS Testing
The next Maps testing is in the morning on October 1st. We will also use other times as needed to finish the tests.
Google Classroom Access:
Accessing Google Classroom on your device at home: Students will need to sign in on their device at home with their Holy Rosary Google Account to do many homework assignments this year. To do this, go to Google.com. They will need to “Add User” and enter their Holy Rosary account information in the format EX: nchiodo.2029@stu.holyrosaryws.org. After they log in using their Holy Rosary Google account, they will need to click on the “waffle” in the top right corner to be able to access all their Google Classrooms. Students have their login information in their planner. Their planner should always stay in their filer. Their filer should go home every night.

Religion
Next week we will be finishing the Chapter 1 study guide on Monday. On Tuesday I will go over all the answers in class and students will have a chance to change their answers as needed. Thursday we will be doing more Maps Testing. The test for Chapter will be on Tuesday (10/6).

Science
Last week we finished our first unit on Variables. We are currently at the beginning of a Project Lead the Way unit called “Infection Detection”. We have started learning about Bacteria and Viruses, and we will have a hands-on lesson next week talking about transmission and how viruses spread. Students have shown great curiosity and inquiry at the beginning of this unit!
Social Studies
Next week we will be having our Lesson 1 Test on Friday (10/2). Students should be studying ahead of time for this test. Please note that the study guide is on Google Classroom and a hard copy was passed out in class.. On Monday students will participate in a review game for Lesson 1. On Tuesday (5A) and Thursday (5B), we will be completing a review handout for Lesson 1.
ELA
Fifth graders are ready to begin Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. The books will be distributed on Monday, along with a packet for chapters one and two. This week all work will be completed in the packet.
Spelling: Unit 12 test has been returned. Students can make up ½ value of points missed by turning in the missed words written 5 times each. We began Unit 3; pages 15, 16, and 17 are due on Tuesday. Pages 18, 19, and the words written 3 times each are due on Thursday. The Unit 3 test will be on Friday, Oct. 2.
