ELA
Hello HRS families! This past week, we started book clubs. Students picked out their top five novels out of about 20 books. I then placed them into reading groups based on the books they’re interested in. This is such a fun project, and it usually gets students working with some new classmates (who share an interest!). This is a four week reading project. Students have split the book into four even reading chunks, with the goal reaching a shared page number by the end of each week. Book clubs will meet every Friday and students will complete an activity together. We will also start Genius Hour next week, which is a research and presentation unit. It is called “Genius Hour” because ELA class time is allotted for students to research and investigate a topic of their choice, which they will present on in June. As the teacher, my job will be to teach research skills and media literacy to guide students through the process of educational research. Both book clubs and Genius Hour mark a very exciting time of year that is student-centered, hands on, and above all, filled with learning opportunities. Have a great weekend!
