Science
Students did a fantastic job on their inventions. I saw many creative ideas and products!
Students will learn that some plants grow without soil and even without roots. Students will set up seed sprouters, water the plants, weigh them, and observe their growth. Students will then collect data to explain that plants primarily use light, air and water to get the materials they need to live.
Social Studies
Next week we will continue to work on Lesson 7, Comparing the Colonies. In this lesson we will compare and contrast six early English colonies using a graphic organizer. Read about diverse historical perspectives from the 1600s. Then rank colonial belief statements and engage in respectful discussions. Students will complete a Reading Notes/Study Guide for the test next week. The lesson 7 test will be on February 13th for 5A and February 14th for 5B.. A study guide will be on Google Classroom one week before the test.
ELA
Hello HRS families. I wanted to begin with a slight change to our normal ELA routine. Because there is no school for students on Friday, we will have the spelling and vocab test on Thursday, February 8th. I will include some practice throughout the week, and another crossword puzzle. Since we are done with part one of Wonder, we will be completing a “character emotions chart,” which tracks our protagonist’s feelings throughout pages 1-80. We will also begin part two. There will be another double-entry journal on Google Classroom and I’ll provide a paper copy as needed. Students can also make their own on lined paper. The quantity of quotes will increase on this one, and I will put the grading scale on the double-entry document. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
