5A will attend the 7:45am Mass as a class Thursday, 3/1. Please plan on either dropping your child off at the church or join them for the 7:45am Mass this Thursday! This is a great way to pray as a class this Lenten season. Thanks, Ms. Semandiris

Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

Please remember to check Powerschool often to see if your child has any missing work. This is a great way to make sure your child is turning their work. I also write notes to YOU on a specific grade. If the grade appears red then I have written a little note either to explain the grade or explain “absent”, “late” etc.

Math
Friday: Lesson 70, Writing Equivalent Fractions
Monday: Test # 13
Tuesday: Investigation #7Pattern Recognition
Wednesday: Lesson 71, Fractions, Decimals, and Percents
Thursday: Lesson 72, Area, Part 1

Religion
The students did a fantastic job decorating the lunch bags for the homeless. They even wrote out a positive Psalm of their choice from the Bible. Next week we will continue to learn about Chapter 16, and the Eucharist. Students will be learning about the Dead Sea Scrolls and making scrolls themselves!

Reading
Tomorrow, Friday, students will take a test covering the novel Number the Stars. A study guide has not been given and will not be. Students began creating a timeline of events from the novel during class on Wednesday. I am confident that if students finish their timeline, which is due on Friday, they paid attention during class discussions and did their homework; they will do well on the test.

Next week a novel project will be assigned. Students will have several days to work on it during class; the rest will be completed at home. More details will be coming next week.

Students should be filling in their February Reading Logs as they read at home!!!

Language Arts
Next Monday students will receive a study guide for a verb test, which will be on Friday, 3/2. Today in writing, students began studying limericks, traditional Irish poems, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. On Tuesday and Wednesday of Next week, students will complete their own limericks. On Thursday we’ll begin a persuasive piece, which is an event advertisement. Remember that you can always check my website for further updates: http://www.holyrosaryws.org/Class/6B/index.php/.

Social Studies
The fifth graders will take the Chapter 8 test tomorrow 2/23. Next week we will be moving on to Chapter 9, Life in Colonial Williamsburg. In this lesson, students take a “walking tour” of Williamsburg to learn about daily life in the colonial Virginia capital.

Science
Students will learn how adaptations help animals and plants survive in water or on land. Students will investigate the strength of eggshells by placing books on them until they break. Students will also submerge broken shells in vinegar to find what effect vinegar has on the shells. Students will take a short quiz on lessons 1 & 2 next Friday.

Have a great week!

Ms. Semandiris
