Social Studies
We have been working very hard on Chapter 4 in class. Please be reviewing Interactive Notebook notes, reading the chapter each night and practice the on-line test. The test is next Wednesday 11/3.

Science
Students will learn how scientists study planets and stars. Students will discover how scientists use spectroscopes to analyze light and how telescopes work. Students will take a test on Astronomy, Lesson 2 & 3 next Friday (11/5).

Religion
Students begin Chapter 14, Reborn in Christ. Students will be able to describe the stages of Christian Initiation. Students will also discuss our baptismal call. As baptized Catholics we have a special call to live as members of Christ’s body, the Church. By our words and actions, we show that we are part of the body of Christ, and we bring Christ into the world. At Baptism, we received the life of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit helps us imitate Jesus in our words and actions.

Reading –
5th Graders will finish up Hatchet this week. There will be an end of the book test next Thursday, Nov. 4th. Students will receive a study guide in class today. Students should be encouraged to review all study guides in their filer and re-read as necessary.

Next week will be devoted to working on the Book Report project. Time will be provided in class each day to finish reading books for the 1st Trimester book report and to work on the actual book jacket project as well. If your child is going to use a word processor for this report, those responses can be typed at home and brought to school to glue onto book jackets. Students should plan ahead next week and bring colored pencils, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, and of course, their book report book to Reading each day!

Language Arts
Next week, we begin a unit on sentence fluency. We review the different types of sentences and learn about subjects and predicates. There is no spelling assignment or test this week; enjoy a fun Halloween weekend instead!
