Social Studies

The fifth graders are currently working on Chapter 10, Tensions Rise Between the Colonies and Great Britain. We are working in pairs to learn about 6 events, which caused tensions to rise. Students are using a Parent/Child metaphor to better understand the relationship between Great Britain and the Colonies at this time. We will be making skits about the parent/child metaphors. The test for this Chapter is April 7th.

Science

Students will use their knowledge of parachutes, atmosphere, and the engineering design process to design a parachute that meets specific criteria for drop speed and parachute size. They will use the data they collected and concepts learned about parachute their earlier parachute experiments to help them imagine, create, test and improve their parachute designs. Students will use the information in their parachute packets they completed in class to take a short quiz next Friday.

Language Arts

This week in language arts the focus for spelling once again was three different ending sounds. In grammar students learned about perfect tenses, specifically present, past, and future perfect tense. In writing, students continued working on their biography essays. We typed the introduction and beginning body paragraphs this week, and will continue typing the essay next week.
