Reading

This week and next, 5th graders are focusing on Text and Graphic Features in a non-fiction selection. We’re working on identifying the main idea and supporting details as we fine-tune our summarizing skills. Your child will be able to access the vocabulary and story through ThinkCentral from home. We’ve enjoyed most of the book club slide presentations, providing us with colorful summaries of books read these past couple of weeks in book club.

Language Arts

This week in language arts the focus for spelling was unstressed syllables. In grammar, we studied easily confused verbs and other words. Students continued working on their biography essay. We typed several of the body paragraphs in class this week and plan to wrap up and edit the essay early next week. There will be no spelling next week, this will resume after Easter break.
