Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

I hope you all are having a great week! The following is a curriculum update for the following week!

March 20th – Reminder….Camp Seymour Parent Meeting 6:00pm in HRS Library (Parents Only)

March 21st – Report Cards

March 22nd – No School/Teacher Inservice

Math

No Math – 2/18 Mass

Tuesday: 2/19 Lesson 77,Converting Units of Weight and Mass

Wednesday: 2/20 Lesson 78, Exponents and Powers

Thursday: 2/21 Lesson 70, Finding Equivalent Fractions by Multiplying by 1

Religion

We have begun Chapter 19, Answering Gods Call. In this Chapter we will learn about the Sacraments of Marriage and Holy Orders.

Social Studies

This week the fifth graders will continue to work on Chapter 10, Growing Tensions between the Colonies and Great Britain. In this lesson students will be working with a partner to learn about 6 events that lead up to the Revolutionary War.  This test will be after Easter Break on April 12th.

Please remind your child to study for the States and Capitals test which will be on March 27th.  They should be able to locate each state when given a map of the United States. They should also be able to indicate the name of the capital of each state.

Language Arts

This week students have been reviewing and adding new words to their vocabulary by using prefixes and suffixes. Students will have a test on Friday, March 15th, on prefixes, suffixes and root words. The test will include spelling rules; for example the silent “e”, the “y” rule and doubling consonants rule.

Science

Students will discover what makes producers important in an ecosystem. They will also learn how consumers get their energy.

Students will take a quiz on lesson 1 & 2 next Wednesday.

Reading

The 5th Graders are participating in another Book Club unit. The students work in small groups with others who have chosen the same book. Students take turns leading discussions and taking groups through the assigned tasks. There will be an end of the book test on Thurs. March. 21st.
