Reading
The 5th Graders are coming to the end of our first ‘Book Club’ unit. Over the course of this unit we have covered many of the Schoolwide Learning Expectations by setting and accomplishing goals using effective organizational skills, demonstrating personal accountability for learning, clearly communicating ideas, listening respectfully, and participating in and leading group activities. Students will not be tested on their book, but will be assessed on their journals and participation in the group during the unit. Next week we will practice oral reading fluency through Reader’s Theater.

Language Arts
Next week, students practicing using singular, plural and possessive nouns correctly. They will take a quiz on this content on Tuesday, Jan. 25th. Because of the MLK holiday on Monday, there will be no spelling assignment or test this week. We will, however, be conducting a mini-spelling bee during class time. We will choose two representatives from each 5th grade class to participate in the all-school spelling bee during Catholic Schools Week.
