Religion
We will begin Chapter 16, Gathered for Mass. We will learn about the Mass and the parts of the Mass.
Math

Reading
The 5th graders have been focusing on expressive oral reading, story elements and cause and effect this week while enjoying some Christmas reading. We’ll end the week in reading class with some favorite Christmas picture books, Christmas carols and a cup of Christmas cocoa….Merry Christmas to all of your families!
Science
Students will look at onion cells under their microscopes. Students will also identify basic parts (organelles) of the cells and their functions.
Social Studies
We will begin Chapter 7, Comparing the Colonies. In this Chapter, students will be learning about three regions, New England, Middle and Southern. We will also be learning many things about 6 of the original 13 colonies. Student will become an expert on one of these 6 colonies and create a billboard advertisement/presentation to lure people to come their colony.
Language Arts
This week in Language Arts s learned about elements of figurative language including similes, metaphors, alliteration, and personification. Students wrote two Christmas pieces using figurative language in their writing. We will begin the new year focusing on opinion writing.
