Social Studies
Next week in honor of Veteran’s Day, we will be having a very special Veteran teach us about this special holiday. Robert Ullman, Eliza’s dad in 5A, retired this past January after serving 30 years in the U.S. Navy. He will be visiting us via zoom on Tuesday 11/9 from 9:30 – 10:15. Both 5A and 5B will attend this special presentation. I have reminded students to have their headphones at school every day but they will really need them for this presentation. *Students are welcome to bring in a picture of a family member who is a Veteran next Monday. We will display these pictures in the classroom to honor their years of service.

Hello HRS families. I enter this weekend feeling very proud of the work your children have done. Students invested so much time and creativity into their short stories, and also into giving their peers feedback. This was a valuable experience for these young authors. Next week, we will finally begin the novel Wonder. I’ll start the week with an anticipation guide that provides students with an opportunity to explore some of the big ideas in the novel before diving in. We will also review how to cite evidence in a paragraph response to literature. From there, we will begin reading. Students can expect to complete a double-entry journal for homework, on which they write a quote and their analysis on a T-chart. Books will be sent home in large ziplocks. Take care!
