Science

Students have practiced with different materials to clean up an oil spill. Next, students will create a model of a river system. Students will choose different materials to clean an oil spill so that the oil has the least impact on the surrounding ecosystem.

Next, students begin a unit in life science. Students will learn the characteristics of living things and how animals and plants are classified.

Social Studies

Next week in Chapter 4 we will continue to work in pairs as “Research Scientists” and “Deep Sea Divers” to analyze artifacts that were found in a sunken ship from the Age of Exploration. Students will be completing their “Reading Notes” while analyzing each artifact. They will also use their Social Studies book to identify the artifacts and then write notes about each of them. Later we will categorize these artifacts into three categories: Motivation for Exploration,New World Product, and New Technology that encouraged Exploration. The test for this Chapter is on 11/10.

E.L.A.

Hello, and happy weekend. This past week, students began drafting short stories. On Monday we will continue to draft these. Students have a rubric, which I will also post on Google Classroom (if you would like to see what students are being asked to do). Students will also conduct peer reviews to practice using the rubric. The short story assessment will demonstrate a student’s ability to develop characters, write plot/sequence of events, and develop a theme and conflict. Following this assessment, we will start Wonder. We will hopefully get to the first two chapters next week. Thanks, and email me if you have any questions.
