Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

Today the sixth graders had the Wax Museum for Social Studies class. I was grading them ALL day. They did such a wonderful job!!!! The sixth grade teachers took my classes from 8:30am – 2pm. So, this means that we did not get the Boomerang envelope stuffed! We will send it out next Thursday. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Remember: 5/27 Field Day tomorrow and Noon Dismissal! (Colors Blue and White …maybe some red if you want!!!)

Math
Tuesday: 5/31: Test 18
Wednesday: 6/1 Lesson 96, Using Reciprocals to Divide Fractions
Thursday: 6/2 Lesson 97, Ratios

Religion
We will have our Chapter 14 test on Wednesday 6/1. The Celebrating the Mystery Poster is also du on 6/1. We will also be working on the Steps to Respect curriculum during Religion next week.

Social Studies
The fifth graders took the Chapter 15 test today. Next week we will be using some of the SS class periods to teach Family Life. We will also be learning about Immigration during the last two weeks of the year.

Science
Students are learning about the respiratory system. They investigated the diaphragm’s role in the respiratory system by building a model lung.
Family Life: Students begin Chapter 5 & 6: Growing to Fatherhood and Motherhood. Students will learn about the male and female reproductive system and its part in God’s plan for new life.

Reading
Next week 5th graders will be putting their paraphrasing skills into practice as they create ‘Good Manners’ books for our Kindergarten classrooms. Please encourage your child to continue reading each day. Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!

Language Arts
Students review possessive and interrogative pronouns and make “pronoun pockets” in class to keep track of all the categories and uses of pronouns. Students continue to create stories using Story Jumper software. These are turning out great! Most children will be able to finish these using class time, but any extra work they can do at home will be great. If students need another direction sheet for logging in from home, let me know and I will print one out. There have been a few students that have experienced some challenges signing in from home, but for the most part, we’ve been successful. There is no spelling assignment or test this week.

Have a great week!
