Social Studies
The fifth graders will be completing Chapter 14 next week. We have been learning about the Constitution and the various powers that the three branches of government hold. The test will be next Wednesday. Our Chapter 14 test in on Friday 6/8.

Language Arts
This week, we worked on plot and opening sentences of our fantasy stories. Students did more prewriting and drafting. Final drafts for the 1 – 2 typed-page (minimum) story are due on Thursday, June 7th. Students will finish studying prepositional phrases, which is our last grammar unit. Students will have a short grammar test on Friday, June 8th, which will cover the basic parts of speech the students have learned this year: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, and prepositions.

Science
Students will learn how oxygen gets to the body cells from your lungs. They will discover how cells use oxygen to release energy from food. Students will also study the excretory system to learn how your cells produce and get rid of wastes. Students will take a test on Chapter 1, lessons 1-3 next Thursday (6/7).
