Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

Please remember to read the reminder list for camp that we passed out in the Boomerang last week. (It was on green paper.) It is important that your child has all the materials she/he needs for camp.

We will be at Camp Seymour next week Monday – Wednesday!!! Pray for sunshine!
Here is a brief curriculum update:

Social Studies
The fifth graders will be working on Chapter 14, The Constitution on Thursday and Friday of next week.

Science
Students are beginning a new unit on the human body. In Chapter 3 of the Family Life text, students will look at messages they receive from communication media. They will learn the importance of honesty and respect in good communication and prayer as a communication with God.

Reading
5th graders have been learning about how text structure, or the way a piece of writing is organized, determines what reading strategies can be used to increase their comprehension. We have been applying these reading strategies to some non-fiction articles about bees. Due to ITBS testing, there has been no homework assigned this week, other than the ongoing reading of their book for the 3rd Trimester book report.

Language Arts
We practice writing Haiku poetry and learn to create “concrete” poems. Each student has presented his/her “poem of choice” to the class this week. They’ve done a great job memorizing and reciting these!

• Due to ITBS testing this week and Camp Seymour next week, students do not have a spelling test or assignment.

Have a great week!
