Religion
Next week we will be learning about the Stations of the Cross. The students will be during an activity in groups. The following week we will be starting Chapter 19, Matrimony/Holy Orders and learn about the Triduum.

Language Arts
Students continue working on narrative writing. They create short stories that contain a clear introduction, rising action, solution and resolution. Currently, students are revising first drafts and will type final drafts early next week. Spelling homework is due on Monday; our test will be on Monday.

Reading
Fifth graders will finish the novel, Number the Stars this week. We have had some wonderful discussions around the themes of courage and friendship, along with practicing some very practical skills such as skimming, scanning and summarizing. Next week we will be getting back into the Scott Foresman Reading text.

Science
Students are building and analyzing the design of propeller-driven vehicles. Students will discuss the motion and design of these vehicles and compare these features with the axle-powered vehicles they built previously. Students will propose and implement design changes for their propeller-driven vehicles that will not affect performance.

Social Studies
The fifth graders have begun to study Chapter 12, Declaring Independence. Students will be learning about the writing of the Declaration of Independence. This is an exciting lesson and the students seem to be really interested.

Have a great week!
