Language Arts

This week students studied spelling words with origins from other languages. In grammar students learned about when to italicize or underline titles and when to put titles in quotation marks. Students shared last week’s autobiography papers and then began brainstorming for a personal narrative about something they have done that is important to them.

Science

Students are learning about motion. Students will set up a system to pull the vehicles they have built from K’nex pieces. They will then compare and discuss how the motion of their vehicle changes when more or less weight on a string is used to pull them. Students will then draw conclusions about the effect of differently weighted strings on the motion of their string-pulled vehicles.

Social Studies

Today the fifth graders had the debate between the Patriots and the Loyalists. Tomorrow 1/24, students will take the Chapter 11 test. Next week we will begin Chapter 12, To Declare Independence.
