Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

I hope this letter finds you well. Please remember to turn in your parent pre-conference form by tomorrow. Conferences are next week. I am really excited to meet with all of you! In the FCE today are the Sally Foster Fund Raising Items. Please encourage your child to SELL! SELL! SELL! You will also be receiving an Entertainment Book. You can sell the book for $20 or buy it yourself! (It is originally $40!) This is our 5th grade fundraiser for Camp Seymour. Here is a brief curriculum update for next week:

Math
Friday: Lesson 23, Recognizing Halves
Monday: Lesson 24, Parentheses, Associative Property
Tuesday: Lesson 25, Listing the Factors of Whole Numbers

Religion
We will have our Chapters 2 & 3 test on Monday. This was written in the Boomerang last week. Please remind your child to study the study guide. If they know the information on the study guide then they will do well on the test.

Social Studies
We will have a test on Chapter 3 when we return from conference week. 5A’s test is on Monday, 10/29 and 5B, Tuesday 10/30. 5A has completed the interactive notebook pages 12 & 13 as well as made study note cards for each of the 7 cultural regions. 5B is a bit behind because of the magazine assembly as well no school last Friday. They are making up for loss time during their class this week! By next Tuesday 5B will have pages 12 & 13 completed as well as their note cards.

Science
Students will learn to tell the difference between renewable and nonrenewable resources. Students will learn how water resources are used and how water can be conserved and water pollution reduced.

Language Arts
Students take their grammar/writing test on Friday. These will be corrected and shared with the students and parents during conferences. We are reviewing all off the spelling “Quick-Words” in groups 1-4 to prepare for a review test on Monday.

Reading
The Unit 1 tests will be included in your child’s conference portfolio. The next due date for the Book Report is this Monday, Oct. 22. Students should be finished reading their Newbery book by that date. On Monday, all students will be given the paper to complete the rough draft of their book jacket. Students should always have their Newbery book with them for class.
