Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

We are continuing to learn so many things this week in the fifth grade. Thank you so much for returning the conference questionnaires. This really helps me make the most of our 20 minutes!!

Here is a curriculum update for October 21 – October 22.

Religion

Religion classes next week will also be use to prepare the students for conferences.

10/21 Monday: Ch. 2, Lesson 10, Multiply by Two-Digit Numbers

10/22 Tuesday: Chapter 2 Test Review (Test will be Tuesday after conferences.) Please use the week to go online and review the video and the tutorials.

Science

Students begin Chapter 2, The Earth’s Resources. Students will explore where resources come from. They will be able to identify and distinguish renewable and nonrenewable resources.

Language Arts

Fifth graders, wonderful job on this weeks spelling test!! Keep up the good work and remember to study 10 minutes each night to master your spelling list.

This week students have been busy drafting their descriptive essays on Autumn. After three days of peer and self-editing, students have begun typing their descriptive paragraphs about an item that reminds them of Autumn. Students will be completing the paragraph in-class and will be illustrating the item they have described

Social Studies

We started Chapter 3, Native Americans and Their Cultural Regions. In this Chapter students will study the different cultural regions within the United States. They will compare and contrast the natural resources in these areas as well as the artifacts that each of the various groups used.

Reading

Today, 5th Graders completed #5 AoW in a ‘quiz-like’ setting. They worked independently through the steps of highlighting areas of confusion, making notes and writing a short reflection. This week’s article was of particular interest to the 5th Graders…..ask your child why!!
