Dear Fifth Grade Parents,
We will be ITBS Testing starting Tuesday 10/18 – 10/28. We have spread the tests out throughout the two weeks so we will not be missing any one class too many times. We will also try to limit homework during these two weeks.
Religion
We will have our Chapters 2 & 3 Test on 10/17. Please follow the study guide to study for the test.
Math

Science
Students have been working in small groups to design a process for cleaning up an oil spill. They will test their process and evaluate the results of their clean-up using an established criteria. They will record their results and evaluation in a lab booklet.
Language Arts
This week in Language Arts students’ spelling focused on three vowel sounds. In grammar students studied singular, plural, and collective nouns. Students continued to work on dialogue in writing, specifically how to use punctuation correctly with dialogue. Next week will begin a two week break from ourJourneys spelling and grammar studies for the IOWA testing window.
Social Studies
Tomorrow we will be taking the Chapter 4 Test. Students have received the study guide for this test last week. Next week we will be working on Chapter 5, Routes of Exploration to the New World. In this lesson we will learn about 8 European explorers. Students will be working in pairs to complete a large Matrix hanging in the hall. The same matrix is in the “Reading Notes” of their Interactive Notebooks.
